NCAIED Awards Jaye Francis As Volunteer Of The Year


The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development has recently recognized Anderson Center for Indigenous Development Coordinator Jaye Francis as its Volunteer of the Year.

Jaye was praised for the time, energy and resources that she has devoted to the advancement of the National Center and its mission of advancing the American Indian business sector and tribal economies.

Jaye was honored at the Center's 30th Annual National Reservation Economic Summit in Las Vegas.

Thomas Gutierrez Featured On UNM Proud

Anderson School of Management's Thomas Gutierrez, Student Technical Support Center coordinator, was recently featured on UNM Proud, a website created to promote UNM’s students, staff, faculty and alumni in Albuquerque and across the United States. In the video below, Thomas discusses what drew him to the Anderson School as well as one of his favorite pastimes, bowling.

Gouvea and Francis Book Forthcoming


UNM Anderson professor Raul Gouvea and Center for Indigenous Development coordinator Jaye Francis have collaborated on Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs of New Mexico:  Surpassing Barriers and Stereotypes, a book to be published by UNM Press. The book will showcase the experiences of Native women entrepreneurs in the state of New Mexico, consisting of first-person accounts detailing how their businesses began and what it took to make them thrive. A brief article on the book was published in the Albuquerque Business First and can be found HERE.

Jaye Francis Receives NHI Award

Anderson School of Management's Jaye Francis, coordinator of both Native American Student Success at Anderson (NASSA) and the American Indian Business Association (AIBA) recently received the Loving Service Award from the Native Health Initiative.

The award is given to those whose life and work embody the concept of loving service. The individuals who nominated Jaye say that "Jaye lives for her people, her community, her family. She would do everything she can to help a student who needs guidance, a community member who is in crisis, one of her church members needing someone to sit and pray with them. She is long overdue for the NHI Loving Service Award."

Ashley Taylor Receives Sarah Belle Brown Award


Congratulations to one of our newest Anderson advisement team members, Ashley Taylor, who is the recipient of the 2014 Sarah Belle Brown Community Service Award!   Each year this award honors one UNM faculty member, staff member, and student who have demonstrated extraordinary volunteer service toward public service in the UNM and Albuquerque community.

Anderson Welcomes Tammy Cline

The Anderson School of Management is pleased to welcome Tammy Cline in the role of Operations Manager.

Tammy comes to Anderson from the College of Education, where she held the same position.

Tammy will be coordinating the  multifaceted operational infrastructure of the school, including administration of policies and procedures, financial and operational analyses, and procedural auditing.

Florencio Olguin Named Student Success Specialist

Florencio Olguin, Senior Academic Advisor, steps into a new role with the Anderson School of Management Advisement team as a Student Success Specialist!  Florencio is an integral member of the advisement team at Anderson, and shares his commitment for student success, elevating practices in the advisement office. 

Florencio brings expertise from several key positions at UNM.  He has been nominated to receive the best new advisor award in 2014, and will only continue high standards for quality service in this new role.

Staff Appreciation Month Book Exchange

As part of Staff Appreciation Month, the popular Book Exchange will be held on Tuesday, July 8, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the south, north and main campuses, held at the SUB, Lobo Ballrooms A&B, or North Campus, Domenici West, room 2112. Staff members have the opportunity to take as many items as you would like from our collection.

Donations can be left at the front desk of Anderson School of Management, second floor, west wing, or at the following locations:

South Campus - SSSC Front Desk.

North Campus - Cancer Research Facility Front Desk, College of Pharmacy Front Desk, Multi-Disciplinary Research Facility Suite 208, UNMH Ortho 2ACC Front Office, BMSB Common Area and BMSB Room 335.

New Director Of Advisement: Tracy Wilkey

Anderson School of Management is pleased to announce that Tracy Wilkey is the new director of Advisement and Career Services.

Tracy brings more than 8 years of professional experience in student advocacy to her new role. As an enthusiastic champion of higher education and development for Anderson students, Tracy provides an integrated approach to academic advising, simultaneously promoting dual paths of academic and career achievement.

Prior to her position at Anderson, Tracy worked with the Global Business Program for the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, as well as a math instructor for middle school students in Tucson.  She has experience fundraising for a children’s charity in New York City and as an admissions counselor for the University of Idaho. Tracy believes that students are the drivers of their own success, and that with the right level of support and encouragement, students can accomplish their goals.

Tracy graduated with her Bachelor degrees in Economics and French from the University of Arizona.

Welcome New Senior Alumni Relations Officer

Darrell Garcia is the new Senior Alumni Relations Officer at UNM Anderson School of Management. 
 
Darrell comes to UNM Anderson after spending the past six years at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School in Albuquerque where he was a founding faculty member.  Darrell received his MBA from Anderson in 2012 with a concentration in Policy and Planning.  He also has a MA in elementary education from UNM and a BBA from Colorado State University.

In his new role, Darrell will work to reunite Anderson graduates with the business school. Local alums are invited to attend lectures, events and activities alongside members of the community and Darrell is planning events to reach out to Anderson alums living outside of New Mexico to keep them connected with their alma mater. 

“One of the most important things that students can do is to stay involved,” says Darrell.  “The Anderson School of Management provides numerous ways for both current and past students to stay connected and continue to move their careers forward.  I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, and students at Anderson to foster a culture of community and connectedness.”

Megan Hearting Recognized In Albuquerque Business First

Megan Hearting was recently featured in  People On The Move in the Albuquerque Business First publication, which recognizes notable promotions, new hires, or professional accomplishments in the Albuquerque business community.

Megan, previously the Director of Student Services for Anderson Advisement, was recently promoted to Student Success Manager for Anderson's Executive MBA program. Congratulations to Megan!
