Parish Library Series Features Manuel Montoya

Dr. Manuel Montoya
Innovation often implies a deep connection with high-technology or modernity.  However, folk art and ancestral traditions produce equally compelling technologies. In his presentation Technologies of the Ancestral:  Folk Art, Social Innovation, and Ideology, Dr. Manuel Montoya will explore the historical and philosophical moments that separated folk art from the concept of technology.  He will investigate the moment when mechanical reproduction changed the way that technology was viewed and will conclude with a series of speculative gestures to revisit the technologies of ancestral work and their value to the 21st century global cultural economy.

Dr. Montoya's presentation takes place on Monday, November 10, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at Parish Memorial Library. The lecture is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
